Atlanta and Asheville

2 Days in Feb
North America

Route Details

Flew down to Atlanta and drove back to Cleveland, stopping at Asheville, NC on the way back!

Day 1 (Atlanta to Asheville)

  • Atlanta
  • Asheville

We flew into Atlanta in the morning (my friend bought a car there), picked up the car, and drove into the city. We didn’t plan on staying in Atlanta long, but stopped at The Flying Biscuit Cafe, which has great breakfast (and very healthy and organic). On our way to Asheville we tried to visit a couple of places that were unfortunately hard to find or closed–one I would recommend visiting (and check the times) is the Goats on the Roof store/restaurant–apparently there are goats that hang out on the roof of the store, but we missed the goats.

We arrived in Asheville in the evening, checked into the Sheraton hotel (nice, comfy, cheap and located near the main streets), then went out for dinner at Southern Kitchen and Bar which had wonderful appetizers and drink specials.

Day 2 (Asheville to Cleveland)

  • Asheville
  • Charleston, WV

We left Asheville and drove to the Biltmore Estate, which is a HUGE home owned by the Vanderbuilt family with beautiful grounds. We toured the house, which was pricey (probably a better value in the spring/summer when you could view the gardens), but they had a special exhibit including wedding gowns from famous British films, such as Pride and Prejudice, which added a nice addition to our visit. I recommend visiting the estate if you enjoy history, beautiful homes, etc. After leaving the estate we went to a famous BBQ place called 12 Bones BBQ which was so amazing and delicious. We then started our drive back to Cleveland through the mountains, which was a really great drive.

On the way home we stopped in Charleston, WV–we considered staying for the night but decided to drive back to Cleveland, In Charleston we ate at Bluegrass Kitchen, which had great food. Then, Cleveland!
