One day in Barcelona isn’t nearly enough, but that is all we had unfortunately (long story) so we had to make the most of it. My friend had been there before so he had a good idea of what to do, but this was my first time in Barcelona. We arrived at the airport early in the morning and took the train into town, dropped off backpacks at our hostel and headed to Park Guell. It was the farthest thing we wanted to see so we went there first and worked our way down towards the water. Park Guell is awesome and a must-see. You can see all the way down to the water and it’s a great place to relax and take in the views and architecture. Antoni Gaudi designed most of the famous buildings in Barcelona and they are all worth seeing, at least from the outside.

We then went to Sagrada Familia, which if you can only do/see one thing in Barcelona, this is it. It’s the most amazing building I’ve ever seen and you should take time to view it from the outside and definitely go in as well. The detail is crazy, and that’s why it’s still not finished.

We then walked past 2 of his other works, Casa Mila and Casa Batllo. Neat to look at from the street, kind of expensive to go in so since we didn’t have much time it was easy to decide to keep moving. Walked through the huge Boqueria (market) – everything from fresh seafood to dried fruit. Grabbed some snacks then walked down La Rambla, which is always packed with people. Ate paella for dinner at La Fonda, stopped at a random bar for some drinks, and called it a night as we had an early flight out the next day.

I think you need at the very least 2 full days in Barcelona but 3 would be ideal. We didn’t get to fully appreciate the works of Gaudi and would have loved to have had more meals in the city. We covered a lot of ground on foot and only used public transportation twice. Would love to go back someday!
