The Kentucky Bourbon Trail

1 Day in May
North America

Route Details

  • The Kentucky Bourbon Trail
  • Woodford Reserve Distillery
  • Four Roses Distillery

There are 9 distilleries along the “trail,” and you can do either the Louisville or Lexington side. We did the Lexington side. The Bourbon Trail is not a bar crawl; you actually take a tour or tasting of each distillery. We took the longer tour at Woodford, and I recommend opting for a longer tour for at least 1 of the distilleries. You definitely don’t need to do the long tour at every place, however. The tasting at the end was awesome, they teach you how to properly enjoy bourbon and get the full effect of the flavors. They also had chocolates that matched well to cleanse your palate. At Four Roses we just did the tastings of the different whiskeys. If you can only do one tour, I’d recommend Woodford on the Lexington side and Maker’s Mark on the Louisville side.

Lexington is a really nice town, we stayed downtown and had a good time in the evening out and about with the group of friends we were with. Very walkable. If you’re traveling with a group, have 1 person organize and collect the money for the distillery visits. We had such a large group that we needed 2 tours and it was really helpful to have 1 person take care of all the logistics.
