Weekend trip to Frank Lloyd Wright houses

2 Days in May
North America

Route Details

Day 1

  • Kentuck Knob

Drove out on a Friday from Cleveland, took 3 hours to get there. Went directly to a lesser-known Frank Lloyd Wright house called Kentuck Knob. We took a tour which was definitely worth it. Guide was very good. House and grounds were impressive and unique. Learned a lot about the famous architect. Dinner at B&B place we stayed at (The Stone House Restaurant and Country Inn).

Day 2

  • Fallingwater (Falling Water house)

Had breakfast, really wasn’t that impressive. Went to Fallingwater and had a tour scheduled ahead of time. For Kentuck Knob, we just showed up. We liked Fallingwater better. Fallingwater is owned by diff people than Kentuck Knob – Knob is privately owned and Fallingwater is owned by a conservancy. It was interesting to see the contrast between the two. Tour was awesome, can’t look at the house without one. Guides were great, house is fascinating to see. It was a long tour but well worth the money. Got to see the guest and pool houses too. Ohiopyle is about 10 minutes away and there’s a state park and lots of outdoor stuff in that area. Would be nice if you have time/pets/kids or like adventure. We had lunch at Fireflly Grill in Ohiopyle which was really good, then drove back to Ohio.
