  • Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal
  • Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal
  • Modavie Restaurant

Freed up on a work trip around 4 PM and only had that evening in Montreal (Quebec Province, Canada). After quick stop at hotel, headed to Saint Joseph’s Oratory, which is the largest oratory dedicated to Saint Joseph in the world. This is an absolute must-see in Montreal, and even though it was a 40 minute drive in rush hour it was absolutely worth it. My coworker said the top of the stairs was one of her favorite views in the world. Just a stunning building and area.

Saint Joseph’s Oratory

Drove back into the city, found free parking in Old Montreal (check the signs, some are free starting at 6, others later) and walked aimlessly through the area. Went to Place d’Armes and admired the Notre-Dame Basilica from outside. I know the inside is amazing, and would have liked to have paid to go in if we had the time. Had a good meal at Modavie, walked through more of Old Montreal, grabbed some macarons, and called it a night.

Notre-Dame Basilica

I would like to spend more time in Montreal but I would not prefer to drive. The roads were in terrible condition and there seemed to be construction on every road (in May 2017). I would definitely recommend public transportation if possible. It’s good to know French, also. A lot of the road signs and restaurant menus were in French. In Old Montreal, most have both French and English, however.
