Route Details

Days 1-4

  • Guinness Brewery in Dublin – fun, received samples at the end of the tour
  • Dublin bus tour – nice tour around the city, several stops made
  • Kilmainham Gaol – jail, interesting to go through it and see where prisoners were kept, can go inside cells

We had a rental car to get from place to place, The majority of our trip was in Ireland, so we did a lot and it was beautiful. Spent 3.5 days in Dublin with a pretty relaxed itinerary then drove about 3 hours north to Antrim to go to Giant’s Causeway.

Day 5

  • Carrick A Rede Bridge – very neat experience, high up (don’t be afraid of heights), beautiful view, can’t do when it’s really windy-they shut down, you have to go across the bridge twice-only way back down
  • Giants Causeway – beautiful, rough terrain, neat rock formations. Only 15 minutes from Carrick A Rede.
  • Dunluce Castle – only 10 minutes from Giant’s Causeway, have to do all 3 and it’s a great way to spend a day

Stayed at Seaview B&B, great location for our stops.

Days 6-7

  • Drove to Markree Castle for wedding reception – beautiful castle, great staff, pretty rooms, accommodating, has lots of character

Day 8

Saw the Marian Shrine in Knock, drove back to Dublin and flew to Edinburgh.

Days 9-10 Scotland

  • Edinburgh Castle – neat to learn more about the city and country
  • Whiskey Distillery, John Knox House, and Auld Reekie Tour

We spent all our time in Scotland in Edinburgh. We thought it was the neatest town and loved the “feel” of it. We walked everywhere, enjoyed the people, food, scenery, and atmosphere of this town. I think 2 days there was enough for us. Headed to London by train (4 hours).

Day 11

  • Natural History Museum
  • Tate Modern
  • British Museum
  • Harrods (shopping)

Great museums, could have spent much more time in each of them, Harrods was okay, very expensive and didn’t buy anything-a collections of stores-ridiculously priced (kind of like a mall)

Day 12

  • Stonehenge (almost 2 hours by bus)
  • Westminster Abbey
  • Big Ben
  • Tower of London
  • Tower Bridge
  • London Bridge
  • Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre
  • Thames River Cruise

Great experience to see Big Ben, London Bridge, and learn more about the history. You can walk everywhere, it might be too far for some but worked for us. We only had 2 days there, so we had to pack as much in as we could. Definitely could have stayed longer and did much more with more time. It was great to visit, but probably wouldn’t choose to go back to London – we would choose somewhere we haven’t been.
