New Year's at Atlantis

3 Days in Jan
Caribbean/Central America

Route Details

We took a family trip to the Bahamas over New Year’s to stay at Atlantis. Grab a taxi to/from the airport – they were relatively inexpensive and easy to come by.

We stayed in the Royal Towers, which are close to everything. You can stay at the Beach or Coral Towers which are quieter and less expensive, but not as centrally located.

The food was phenomenal and much better than I expected (Olives and Café Martinique were our favorites). Even the poolside lunches we had were excellent.

They have a ton of pools and slides, which are all great. Even though there were a lot of people everywhere, it was spread out enough that it never felt really crowded. There is a nice balance between everything being close/accessible and everything being spread out enough that you didn’t feel like you were on top of everyone else. They also have a lazy river (but it isn’t really lazy since there are faster parts with hills/slides) that was really fun and we did that about 8 times. Our 3-year old nephew loved it.

The highlight of the trip was renting a poolside cabana for a day. You get a safe, refrigerator, nice shady area to relax in, and an attendant. Worth the money.

This is the most expensive place I have ever been in my life. I don’t think I’d say I would return because of the cost, but it was a neat place to vacation. One thing that is worth knowing is that smoking is almost everywhere on the property. We were on a non-smoking floor, but the main parts of the hotel and the casinos were smoky. Also, you go through US customs before you leave which is nice.
