New Haven, Connecticut

2 Days in Aug
North America

Route Details

During a work trip, I explored New Haven and Yale University. I love to squeeze in sightseeing even while traveling for work–and you can get a lot in during the few hours you may have in the evening or afternoon.

Day 1

  • Atlantic Ocean
  • Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tale

After spending the day working outside of New Haven, we went to visit the Atlantic Ocean. It was August, and unfortunately we weren’t swimming, but the weather was beautiful. We went to a local park that simply opened up to a beach on the ocean. Being from the midwest, I couldn’t get enough of it. After spending some time chilling at the beach, we ate at Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tale, a random, local seafood restaurant that had great food at a great price.

Day 2

  • Downtown Wallingford
  • Louis Lunch
  • Yale University
  • Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana

Before our day working, we wandered around downtown Wallingford (city outside New Haven), which was a quaint, old-timey street next to hundreds-of-years-old boarding schools where people like the Kennedy’s went to. After visiting a local candy shop, we spent our day working, and then headed back to New Haven in the late afternoon to wander Yale University. We walked all over, searching for a few specific sites, including Louis Lunch, which claims to be the place that invented the hamburger (unfortunately it was closed), and all of the Yale University libraries (being lovers of books). Yale was beautiful–the buildings are awesome and you feel like you’re on a prestigious college campus. You could spend hours walking the campus, visiting the buildings, hanging in the parks, but it’s quite doable in a few hours or less. We ended the evening visiting a pizzeria called Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana which came highly recommended by the locals (and served gigantic, delicious, amazing pizzas).
