Foodie tour of New York City

3 Days in Sep
North America

Route Details

Day 1

  • West Village – walked around and grabbed some NY style pizza (Joe’s Pizza – awesome, cheap), and hot dog (street food).
  • Eatley – multi level store w/ restaurants and bars. Went to very top for la birreria – all beer, tons to choose from.
  • ABC Kitchen – in the flatiron area. Known for creative dishes. We got the crab toast and fried chicken. It’s definitely expensive but worth it. Service is great, make reservations.
  • Amelie – late night dessert.

Day 2

Spent most of the day on the Lower East Side

  • Essex for brunch. They give you 3 drinks with your meal. We paid in advance (I got pancakes) and you get your choice of drinks: mimosa, bloody mary, or screwdriver.
  • Hotel Chantelle – rooftop bar for some drinks.
  • Barrio Chino – chips and salsa, drinks.
  • The Dutch – dinner. Classy, good food, gastropub. Don’t get the crab.
  • Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya – they have old school board games, a lot of fun to play and drink Japanese beers
  • Joe’s Pizza again
  • Bourgeois Pig – most pretentious bar I’ve ever been to. Drink and left.

Day 3

  • Breakfast at Marlton Hotel, where we stayed the previous 2 nights. Great location and best scrambled eggs ever. One way to save money in NYC is by finding a hotel w/ free breakfast. Small room, expensive, but one way to cut down on cost.
  • Upland for an upscale brunch.
  • The Strand bookstore. This place has everything. There are 4 floors and it’s awesome if you like books.
  • Dinner with friends and stayed the last night in Stamford, Connecticut.

We knew ppl that lived in the area giving us recommendations for all the places to eat/drink, and they were pretty spot-on for everything. We didn’t stay at any of the bars or restaurants for very long, it seems like they encourage high turnover so you have some food or drink and go to the next place. We weighed eating anything and everything we could with doing more of the sightseeing and maybe seeing a play, and are glad we spent the trip eating and drinking our way around town.
