Route Details

Must-see waterfalls

  • Seljalandsfoss
  • Skogafoss – close to Seljalandsfoss – can do both in about 3 hours on the same day
  • Gullfoss – part of the Golden Circle tour, 90 minutes north of the city along a BEAUTIFUL DRIVE! The Hot springs are right by that and are a great stop!

Other must-sees

  • Reykjadalur valley (Steam Valley) – on the way to Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, 2.3 mile hike one-way to a natural river you can go in. Water is 92-105 degrees. Gorgeous!
  • Blue Lagoon- between airport and Reykjavik, 70-80 bucks a person. Can spend 4-5 hours there, awesome relaxation.
  • Black Sand Beach – near Vik. Breathtaking…like nothing you ever saw.

Quick Notes:

No need for a travel group! You can do it all yourself and save money.

VRBO and AIR BNB for housing.

Rental cars are rather expensive. No need for one in the city. Can pick one up in capital and then drop off at airport for 30 bucks. That’s the way to go.

Weather: 50-60 degrees in July for normal highs. They use Celsius. 11-16 is the range.

4 am-11 pm it will be light. 19 hours of sunlight a day.

The overall weather will mostly be gloomy. Tons of clouds with minimal sunlight.

Books – go to your local library and grab Fodor’s Iceland travel
