Route Details

We found a great deal to stay at the all-inclusive Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort in Puerto Plata. It’s about a 3 hour drive from either Santo Domingo or Punta Cana, so it doesn’t really matter which airport you fly into. There is an inexpensive bus that you can take to get there, but our return flight was so early we wouldn’t have gotten to the airport in time so we rented a car. Beware if driving: the roads are terrible. There are 5 resorts (Tropical, Crown Suites, Presidential Suites, Royal Suites, Residence Suites) that share the same stretch of beach and you get access to all of them (restaurants and pools/beach). The grounds and restaurants were fantastic and we did nothing but eat and relax at the resorts each day. Lots of stuff for families to do, too.

We’ve stayed in Punta Cana, and I would say it’s better to stay there. It was neat to drive through colonial Santo Domingo and you could make some stops along the drive to Puerto Plata, but it’s better to get there and be real close to where you’re staying.
