Savannah

3 Days in May
North America

Route Details

Day 1

  • Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront – super fancy, right on the water. Checked in, went to the bar upstairs with a great view for a drink. Way too expensive for us normally, but it was only one night as the next night we were staying on the cheap closer to the wedding.
  • Biking the city – Rented bikes for about $10 a day, but you can cover the whole city on foot. It’s very neatly sectioned/blocked. The parks and cemeteries stuck out the most and riding around leisurely was awesome. The whole city has an artsy feel which would make walking not boring. The blocks and parks are somewhat similar looking but there are enough differences to make them all interesting. Great way to spend an afternoon.

Day 2

Walked the streets by myself because my wife was in the wedding and had stuff to do all day. Even took a nap on a park bench and got mistaken for a homeless person.

  • Georgia State Railroad museum – wedding was here, very old, worn-down place with a lot of cool railroad cars. Really awesome photograph opportunities.

Day 3

Early flight home

We went here for a wedding, didn’t really have any expectations and ended up loving it. Almost every block has a different park (take a look on Google maps and you’ll see what I mean), including the one from Forrest Gump where he’s sitting on the park bench with the box of chocolate. You don’t need a car in Savannah, taxis are cheap and you can walk almost anywhere.

Helpful tip: in the Savannah Historic District there is a specific area where there are no open container laws so you can grab a drink and walk around. Great to have a drink and relax in one of the parks, or if a friend isn’t finished when you want to leave, they can take it to go.
