Canadian Rockies

4 Days in Jul
North America

Route DetailsMap

We stayed in Canmore, which is about an hour from Calgary and a half hour outside Banff

Day 1
  • Peyto Lake, Improvement District No. 9, AB, Canada

Peyto Lake is about an hour and a half drive from Canmore and a must-see

Day 2
  • Takakkaw Falls, Columbia-Shuswap A, BC, Canada
  • Yoho Lake, Columbia-Shuswap A, BC, Canada
  • Emerald Lake, Columbia-Shuswap A, BC, Canada

Another hour and a half drive to Yoho National Park. First stop was Takakkaw Falls, then we hiked to Yoho Lake (around 6.5 miles). Definitely worth it and good way to get away from the crowds. Emerald Lake was very crowded.

Day 3
  • Lake Louise, AB, Canada
  • Johnston Canyon, Bow Valley Parkway, Improvement District No. 9, AB, Canada

We were going to do a longer hike but it rained, so we hung out at Lake Louise. Got coffee at the hotel and walked the grounds.

Drove to Johnston Canyon to see the waterfalls. Less memorable than other things but that’s in comparison to other things in the Canadian Rockies. It’s still amazing, just not at the top of the list.

Day 4
  • Moraine Lake, Improvement District No. 9, AB, Canada
  • Sentinel Pass, Improvement District No. 9, AB, Canada

The road that leads to Moraine Lake was closed because it was already full. Had to go to Lake Louise and pay to take the shuttle. Walked around the different viewing areas and then did the hike from Larch Valley to Sentinel Pass. The trail starts at Moraine Lake and is 7 miles RT and 2,600 feet of elevation gain. Some of the best views I’ve ever seen, anywhere.

We went to a rope swing with beautiful views of the mountains in Canmore, but sadly found out they took it down since we were there.
