We had a few days to sight-see after a work trip. It was a rush, but definitely worth it. Weather in January was cold – freezing rain at times, but still enjoyable.

Day 1: Dublin to Galway

We drove from Dublin to Galway and stopped at Clonmacnoise on the way. It’s an old monastery with ruins, high crosses, and gravestones almost right in the middle of the country.

Clonmacnoise

Day 2: Galway to Limerick

  • Dunguaire Castle
  • Aillwee Cave
  • Cliffs of Moher
  • Dolan’s Pub and Restaurant

Drove from Galway to Limerick with a few stops along the way. Cliffs of Moher were the best stop of the day. Dinner at Dolan’s was great – live, traditional Irish music.

Day 3: Limerick to Dublin

  • Blarney Castle
  • Cahir Castle
  • Clontarf Castle Hotel

Drove from Limerick back to Dublin. Went to Cork to see kiss the Blarney Stone then Cahir Castle. Both worth it. Stayed our last night in the Clontarf Castle Hotel in Dublin, and sleeping in an Irish castle was the highlight of the trip. We flew home the next day.
